Welcome to the St Helens Croquet Club

A Friendly Club on the East Coast

St Helens Sports Ground

History of Club

The current St Helens Croquet Club began in 2002. It is situated at the St Helens Sporting Complex on the northern side of town. In 2021 a third green was opened, made possible by the generous donations of members and the hard work of our greenskeeper Rickie Barr.

Events

Yearly, on the last weekend in July, our Winter Tournament is held. This is a fun weekend of playing croquet and making new friends over a BBQ lunch and a formal evening dinner (at an extra charge). The cost to visitors is $20. Members pay $5 and contribute to the catering.

Each year members play off for men’s and women’s singles and mixed doubles competitions.

Membership

Our annual subscription is $90. Playing fees are $5 with a payment of $12 per week for those who play 3 days per week. Visitors pay $7. Prospective members are allowed 3 free games.

Coaching

We pride ourselves in being a very friendly club with enjoyment of playing the game a priority. Experienced members are willing to coach prospective members on how to play the game and to give less able players tips to improve their play.

Dress

In 2021 we adopted a uniform consisting of a turquoise and white polo shirt and a black jacket with a turquoise lining. A logo of a map of Tasmania with internal crossed mallets, three croquet balls and the red ball in a hoop marking the location of St Helens, was chosen from member’s designs.

June 2021 Mayor Opens Our Third Green And Plays The First Game Against Greenskeeper/Member Rickie Barr

Playing Times

Play starts at 9 am in Spring, Summer and Autumn and 9.30 am in Winter, changing when daylight saving does.

Golf Croquet is played on Tuesdays and Saturday and Aussie Croquet on Thursdays.

After playing two games, players stop for morning tea thus staggering the number in our clubroom for Covid Safety. Also members are encouraged to bring their own mugs and morning tea.

Spectators are welcome to any of these sessions but due to Covid Restrictions must watch from the boundary fence.

Visitors are welcome to any of these sessions.
