The Eastern Shore Croquet Club Story
The Constitution of the ESCC was approved in mid 1974 following which the Clarence Commission (now the Clarence City Council) provided the land on the current site of the Club.
One lawn had been started prior to the collapse of the Tasman Bridge but there was no Clubhouse until the following year. The building was started with a $7000 grant from the Tasmanian Government and the Clarence Commission provided a loan. Plans were drawn up by a member’s husband and much of the work was done by volunteers,
Since its formation the Club has had a number State representatives, among them Leigh Herington who won the Australian Singles Championships in 1984 and again in 1988.
Teams are entered in the inter-club pennant association and golf croquet competitions. Information is always displayed on the notice board under the heading “Competitions”
