APRIL SBCC COMMITTEE MEMO

  • Contribute to your club!: We are a club with over 100 members - by far the biggest croquet club in Tasmania. So it should not be hard to find volunteers to assist in the smooth running of the many activities around the club. Yet sometimes it seems that the tasks are all being done by the same members. The lifeblood of our club is the voluntary work put in by you, our members. Your committee is grateful to everyone who gives their time: thanks to those who turned up for our recent weeding working bee. I urge every member to think of just one (more) area in which they could contribute a little more to the club. It need not be a huge task, or very time consuming. Joining one of our subcommittees in an area of interest to you is a great way to get involved more. If each and every member did just a little more, the load would be spread more equitably. I am always happy to discuss ways in which you can contribute.
  • AGM - The date of our AGM is Saturday 13 May, at 10.30 in the clubhouse. The AGM is followed by a Forum where members can raise issues and ask questions. I will soon issue the Formal Notice of the AGM, and the call for nominations for official positions. You will also be informed of the Committee’s proposal to streamline the membership application process. See you there!
  • Club Championships in GC are now finished. Congratulations to Ben King who took out the Open from Hugh Denny, Tony van de Vusse in Division 2 from Chris Groves, Anthony Hodge for winning Division 3 from Rod Chisholm, and to Rene Hortle winner Steve Andrewartha from runner up Colette Gallacher. The AC club championships are now being played.
  • Lawn renovation is now complete and the lawns are looking great. Please look after them by playing your shots with care, and fixing any damage you do. The area outside the equipment shed has been beautifully paved as well.
  • Friends’ School: Three groups of students will be trying croquet on Monday 22, Tuesday 23 and Friday 26 May, from 11.50 to 12.50 each day. If you are happy to help introduce these students to our great game on one of those occasions, talk to Liz Madden or me. Here’s a simple way to contribute!
  • Welcome to Liz Cummings, Fiona Officer, Simon Troman and Ian Murray as new members of the club. We now have a waiting list for membership.

Farewell: This is my last Memo, as I am stepping down from the Secretary role at the AGM. I’ll still be involved at the club in many ways, including coaching and refereeing: in fact, I may get time to play a little more croquet as well! Thanks for all your support over the last seven years.
